Giving Peace a Chance

About SalaaMedia Center

SalaaMedia Center is an independent peace and media organization founded and registered in Sudan in May 2017 as SalaaMedia Center for Cultural Studies and Development. The Center became active in July 2020 and rapidly expanded its presence, establishing key sub-offices in the strategically important regions of Darfur, Blue Nile, West Kordofan, Kassala, and the Red Sea. This early expansion enabled SalaaMedia to gain a deep understanding of and effectively serve diverse Sudanese communities across the country. In response to the evolving and increasingly complex operational environment in Sudan, SalaaMedia made the difficult but necessary decision to relocate its main operations to Uganda in April 2024, where it is now registered as a foreign organization under the Uganda NGOs Bureau.

What We Do

SalaaMedia Workshop 2
  • Peacebuilding: Armed conflicts and disputes over land and natural resources increase insecurity, spreading hate speech, disinformation, discrimination. Transforming these conflicts is key to addressing issues of capacity and redressing marginalization. SlaaMedia adopts conflict transformation, advocacy, and Networking as an approach, through data journalism, and sensitive reporting to countering narratives and hate speech in order to enhance cultural diversity.
  • Human Rights: Journalists and civilians in armed conflicts face numerous threats, including physical violence, arbitrary arrests, and extrajudicial killings by involved parties, alongside cybersecurity risks. SlaaMedia promotes protection, free media, freedom of expression, land, and environmental rights by providing capacity building in new cybersecurity techniques, data protection, and journalist safety. It also advocates for humanitarian access and the rights of affected communities.
  • Social Justice: The historical violent conflicts have led to numerous human rights abuses and violations. To address these issues, SalaaMedia employs investigative journalism, education, and awareness campaigns, through gathering testimonies, analyzing documents, and producing public reports, to promotes accountability and advocates for transitional justice.
